GitHub Toolkit
The GitHub toolkit connects Arcade to GitHub, enabling LLMs to read and write across repositories, pull requests, issues, projects, code search, and user activity using the authenticated user's identity.
Capabilities
- Repository & file management — retrieve repo details, list org repositories, create branches, create/overwrite files, update specific line ranges, and track repository activity history.
- Pull requests & reviews — create, update, list, and merge PRs; manage reviewers and labels; post, reply to, and resolve review comments and threads; check merge readiness; and submit full PR reviews.
- Issues & comments — create, update, list, and comment on issues; add issues to Projects V2; manage labels with fuzzy matching.
- GitHub Projects V2 — list projects across org/user scopes, inspect project fields and items, and search for specific project items.
- Code & user search — search code with inline match context, find accessible repos with fuzzy matching, and inspect the authenticated user's open items, recent activity, and review workload.
- Social & metadata — star/unstar repos, count or list stargazers, identify the authenticated user with org and team memberships.
OAuth
This toolkit uses OAuth 2.0 via GitHub. See the Arcade GitHub auth provider docs for setup details.
Secrets
GITHUB_SERVER_URL— The base URL of the GitHub API server. This is used to target a GitHub Enterprise Server (GHES) instance instead of the defaulthttps://api.github.com. If you are using GitHub.com, this secret is not required. For GHES, set this to your instance's API base URL (e.g.,https://github.your-company.com/api/v3). Obtain the correct URL from your GitHub Enterprise Server administrator or your GHES instance's REST API documentation. This toolkit also accepts an API key credential path; if your integration requires a Personal Access Token (PAT) or GitHub App token in place of OAuth for certain calls, generate one from GitHub Developer Settings → Personal access tokens with the scopes appropriate for the operations you need (e.g.,repo,read:org,project).

IMPORTANT: Line numbers must be part of the diff (changed lines only).
GitHub's API requires line numbers that exist in the pull request diff, not just any line
in the file. If the line wasn't changed in the PR, the comment will fail with 422 error.
Line comments require start_line and end_line. When subject_type is omitted, providing either
line parameter selects a line comment; otherwise the comment applies to the whole file.
File comments cannot include line-specific parameters.
If the commit_id is not provided, the latest commit SHA from the PR will be used.
